The first rudimentary Bonemat dates back to the late nineties [1]. The numerical integration scheme was introduced in 2004 [2]. A user interface giving the user some additional control, e.g. the possibility of performing the numerical integration directly on the HU field or after transforming it into elastic moduli, was issued in 2007 [3].

Through the years, Bonemat seemingly gained some pupularity among researchers, as witnessed by the over 300 citations received.
